Company History
From its inception, Presstek has been an innovator with a mission to change the way printing is manufactured. Presstek solutions are designed to make it easier for printers to cost-effectively meet increasing customer demand for high-quality, short-run full-color printing and faster turnaround while providing improved profit margins.
The holder of numerous patents, Presstek is recognized as one of the world’s premier providers of direct imaging (DI) and environmentally responsible CTP solutions. Presstek has been the recipient of many prestigious GATF InterTech awards, and has been recognized by numerous other industry sources for innovations in business and technology. Presstek has successfully brought to market a range of new generation color printing solutions, including:
- The first chemistry-free CTP system
- The first on-press (DI) printing technology
- The first daylight safe printing plates
- The first thermally imaged plate
- The first digitally imaged waterless plate
From 1987 to 2004, Presstek was a technology provider partnering with the industry’s largest press manufacturers and distribution networks to deliver products enabled by its technology. Presstek DI technology enables presses from leading manufacturers including Ryobi, Heidelberg, KBA, and Kodak. The most notable of these is the Heidelberg QuickMaster DI, which was introduced in 1995 and changed the way short-run color printing was produced. During this period, Presstek was the first to develop and bring to market chemistry-free CTP, and is still an industry leader in this area.
In 2004, Presstek acquired ABDick and Precision Lithograining. The acquisition of Precision Lithograining allowed Presstek to strengthen its manufacturing capability, further ensuring our ability to meet our customers’ current and future needs. The addition of ABDick, with its proud tradition of 120 years of printing innovation and its great depth of understanding of the industry, gave Presstek a direct channel to address the sales, service and support needs of the print provider.
