Windows Installation Instructions:
The .exe and .zip archives contain the same files, which one you download and use depends solely on how you like to do things. The .exe file will expand the files in the same location it is run from and the .zip one should put the files wherever your unzipping program is set to put them.
The files in these archives are intended to be extracted or copied to a blank floppy diskette which can then be accessed from Have Disk and Copy Manufacturers Files from A:\ during the process of adding a printer. It is usually also possible to copy the extracted files to a directory (folder) on your hard drive (give it a descriptive name of your choice), and enter the path or browse to that location when prompted for Manufacturers Files during the process of adding a printer.
Depending on the Microsoft Operating System you are using, you may also be asked to insert a Windows Diskette or CD-ROM at some point in the process of adding a printer. If that occurs, insert the CORRECT original Microsoft distribution media for the version of Windows you are using and enter the appropriate path or browse to your Floppy or CD-ROM drive (include the name of the subdirectory containing the Windows installation files, if appropriate).
Some PC suppliers do not provide original Microsoft Windows distribution media with their machines. They may provide their own CD-ROMS (sometimes with different directory structures), Repair CD-ROMS or floppy diskettes or they may copy some or all of the Windows installation files to a directory on the hard drive. If so, there should be something in the documentation that came with the machine that tells what path to enter or browse to when prompted for the location of the Windows installation files.
After the first printer using a specific version of an ABDick driver has been successfully installed on a Microsoft Windows machine, the needed Microsoft files will be accessible on the machines hard drive in some level of the System directory. The exact paths differ, depending on the version of Microsoft Windows being used, but additional printers can be installed by pointing to the appropriate location when prompted for the Microsoft files, rather than inserting the original media. For Windows 3.1x-9x-ME, the location is usually C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM (assuming the OS was installed into a directory named WINDOWS). If you want to use this trick with other versions of the Windows, refer to the appropriate Microsoft documentation to determine the location of the printer driver files.
